My friend Jer called me yesterday asking me if I wanted to go on a roadtrip to Ottawa with him (he asked me on Friday and the plan is to leave on Sunday). At first I figured it was totally unfeasible since I’m currently waiting for my work visa for Korea and I need wait for that piece of paper so I can start work. I gave it some thought, and turns out it works great for me to go on this impromptu trip. Jer will drop me off in Sherbrooke (well, Lennoxville), where he’ll also spend the night, so we can hit up Frosh week. After a couple days of Frosh week-ing it up, I will head over to the Korean Embassy in Montreal and see if I can expedite the visa process. It’ll also let me check that everything is in order, and if it’s not, I’ll be able to take care of it instantly.
I only got my contract last Wednesday because they miswrote my postal code (CI4 instead of C1A). This delayed teh delivery by a week or so. According to my contract, I start teaching on Spetember 8th at Youngshin middle school in Suwon City. I strongly doubt I’ll make it on time. Anyway, I’m going to visit the Consulate in Montreal and see if the paperwork is all in order and perhaps, if I get lucky, they’ll give me my visa on the spot and I’ll be able to make it to the other side of the world on time so I can teach some English.
I’m super excited to go back to Bishop’s for Frosh though. No one except my friend John Ryan knows I’m visiting. Everyone thinks I’m either in Korea or just kicking it on the Island waiting for my departure. I also checked the weather, it says “mad sick party time”, so I figure it’ll be pretty good.
Whooooweeee! Raise a toast indeed!
