Today was middle-school graduation day. The third graders are moving on to high school and we’re getting new first graders (as of next month). I did get the chance to spend much time with the “graduates” but I’ve spoken to a few of them and gotten to know them a bit. Seeing them go actually makes me a bit sad. This one girl came up to me and in a little voice told me “I’ll miss you.” If that doesn’t get to you, you have no heart.
I’m going to miss those kids even if I didn’t get much time with them. If ever I see them around town, I hope they say hi to me. If I recognize them, you can be sure that I’ll say hi. Maybe we can even have a little conversation with the new English stuff they learn in high school!
On my way home, I saw a a little group of kids with a bag of flour. Apparently it’s tradition for the third graders to throw flour at each other in their uniforms. A neat little tradition, I think.
